Complete disconnection’: Ex-Israel Defence Minister calls for denial of all essential supplies to besieged Gaza

Former Israeli Defence Minister Avigdor Lieberman called Wednesday for a complete separation between Israel and the Gaza Strip, advocating the denial of all essential supplies to the Palestinian enclave, including water, electricity, fuel and goods, Anadolu Agency reports.

It was the latest statement in an ongoing incitement campaign by Israeli officials against Gaza, pounded by a bloody war for 320 days.

The decision that must be made today is a complete separation between Israel and the Gaza Strip,” said Lieberman, head of the hardline Yisrael Beiteinu Party, on X. No electricity, no crossings, no water, no fuel and no goods, complete disconnection,” he added. Israel tightened its siege on Gaza since it launched its brutal attack on October 7, 2023, cutting off water, electricity, and fuel supplies.

Currently, limited humanitarian access is allowed through Israel, but what is allowed to pass through does not cover the daily needs of the Territory’s 2.3 million population standing at the edge of starvation.

Israel has continued its relentless campaign against the Gaza Strip since a Hamas attack on 7 October 2023, with total disregard for a UN Security Council resolution calling for an immediate cease-fire.

More than 40,200 Palestinians—mainly women and children—have been killed, while some 93,000 others are injured, according to local health authorities. The continuous blockade of Gaza has made this region devoid of adequate food, fresh water, and medicine, the ruins of which are seen in this region.

Israel stands accused of genocide at the International Court of Justice, whose latest ruling ordered it to immediately halt its military operation in the southern city of Rafah, which more than 1 million Palestinians had fled to escape the war before it was invaded on 6 May.
