Israeli forces killed at least 48 Palestinians in the Gaza Strip on Wednesday, including a rescue worker, as airstrikes and bombardments targeted homes, hospitals, and civilian areas. Health officials said that strikes in northern Gaza, including Jabalia and Gaza City, killed dozens, adding that continued military operations in the region have intensified. Yet despite international calls for ceasefire, Israel’s military efforts remain focused on eradicating Hamas’ presence in Gaza.
The violence only intensified throughout the day, as medics reported 12 deaths in one strike on a house in Jabalia, in northern Gaza. Another airstrike later on targets Gaza City’s Sheikh Radwan neighborhood and killed 15 people. In the Al-Mawasi area of southern Gaza, seven Palestinians were killed, including a girl, in an Israeli airstrike. “The attacks today have left no place in Gaza safe,” said local and U.N. officials.
In another strike in the Rimal district of Gaza City, four were killed. On Sunday, a school sheltering displaced families in the central Gaza Strip was hit, leaving three dead and at least 20 injured.
One of the hardest-hit areas was the Kamal Adwan Hospital in Beit Lahiya; the Israeli forces bombed it even though it was one of the few remaining operational medical centers in northern Gaza. According to Hussam Abu Safiya, the director of this hospital, at the time of the bombing, patients were being treated, including in the intensive care unit. Resources are extremely scarce, and food, water, and medical supplies are not allowed in, further deteriorating the humanitarian situation.
Officials said the hospital had admitted 85 injured people, including children, many showing signs of malnutrition due to severe food shortages.
Meanwhile, Israeli forces have been continuing operations in the northern towns of Jabalia, Beit Lahiya, and Beit Hanoun, with reports of mass house demolitions and forced evacuations. Palestinian officials say Israel is trying to establish a permanent buffer zone along Gaza’s northern edge, though Israel denies these claims.
On the contrary, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu repeated Israel’s determination that the war would be “ended only when Hamas is defeated,” refusing appeals for an immediate ceasefire. In parallel, the peace treaty negotiations have been at a standstill, with no progress concerning the return of hostages or humanitarian relief.
