Israeli tanks pushed Monday into northern Gaza, shelling towns and refugee camps as military operations in southern Lebanon rose a notch. The new incursion has taken the humanitarian crisis in Gaza to a peak, Palestinian emergency services say, estimating that 100,000 civilians have been cut off from food and medical supplies in northern regions like Jabalia, Beit Lahiya, and Beit Hanoun.
According to the Israeli military, the operations target the Hamas forces that are reportedly regrouping in the areas. The military reported capturing 100 suspected Hamas operatives in a raid at Kamal Adwan Hospital in Jabalia. But Hamas and local medical authorities denied the presence of any militants in the facility. At least 19 Palestinians were killed in Israeli airstrikes and shelling across Gaza on Monday, most of them in the northern part of the territory, the Gaza Health Ministry said.
Peace talks, led by the US, Egypt, and Qatar, resumed on Sunday. The talks ushered Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi who had a two-day hostage prisoner swap to an opportunity for a permanent truce. According to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the focus on the Doha talks aimed to alter the previous frameworks that the truce would need. Although all the claims asserted that there is a need to disarm Hamas before having an unconditional ceasefire, Hamas believes that only after the Israelis are out of Gaza, the fighting will end.
Meanwhile, the war is also escalating in Lebanon. In the early hours of Monday, Israeli airstrikes have taken the lives of seven persons, Lebanon’s Health Ministry said. Israel ordered the evacuation of large portions of the city of Tyre after it struck Hezbollah rocket depots and other military equipment in the town. Footage can be seen where local civil defence groups are urging people to get out for their safety.
Much of southern Lebanon, including Tyre, has been bombed, turning once-thriving areas into ghost towns. Hezbollah retaliated by targeting Israeli military sites, though reports of damage or casualties are yet to be confirmed.
In Gaza’s northern hospitals, which are adamant that they will not withdraw, medical facilities hardly run amid fuel, food, and medicine shortages. Casualties are reported by reports as a result of an untimely absence of treatment. Civilians who run from bombardments leave behind messages to loved ones in case they perish at the hands of continuing rocketing and increasing violence that batters.
The Israeli military said the operation adheres to international law despite the increasing number of casualties, estimated at over 43,000 by Gaza health officials. Israel accuses Hamas of basing fighters within civilian populations, a claim denied by Hamas.
Escalations in this part of the world exacerbated conditions in Gaza and increased tensions towards a more significant conflict in the Middle East that might touch upon global energy resources.
