Naim Qassem assumes Interim Leadership of Hezbollah after Nasrallah’s death.

In the latest news today, the Lebanese movement Hezbollah chose Naim Qassem as the acting president following Nasrallah Hassan, who was killed alongside his daughter Zeinab and top leader Ali Karaki in Israeli air attacks on Beirut.

Qassem acted when Nasrallah was suspended to take charge of the movement following his martyrdom together with his young daughter Zeinab and top commander, Ali Karaki, through Israeli attacks. According to observers, Hashem Safi al-Din, the current chairman of Hezbollah’s Executive Council, is expected to stay on permanently.

Safi al-Din also sits as a member of the Jihad Council responsible for the military wing of Hezbollah. Despite those connections, Hashem Safi al-Din has done but fed the speculations that will see him ascend to the top of the operation.

The Israeli military had put out a statement the previous day saying Nasrallah, the Hezbollah leader, was killed in an airstrike targeting the group’s headquarters in the southern suburbs of Beirut. Hezbollah also denied later yesterday that Nasrallah was killed.

His murder would not only leave Hezbollah short of a severe blow but also of Iran, whose Revolutionary Guards founded the organisation in 1982. The Israeli military also ‘de-cou’.” Hassan Nasrallah, the leader of the Hezbollah terrorist organisation,” Israeli army spokesperson Avichay Adraee said in a statement on X.

Another Hezbollah commander-in-chief, namely Ali Karaki, was also eliminated, he also noted. In another post, the Israeli military said: “Hassan Nasrallah will no longer be able to terrorise the world.”

With the attack on the Hezbollah command centre on Friday and more air strikes on Saturday, there has been a rise in hate between Israelis and the heavily armed group, increasing the prospect of whirlpool into a wider conflict.

Hebrew language publication of the statement that Mr Adraee had issued reads: The resistance Brigades attacked the nuclear reactor and other construction sites on Sunday when the leadership of the terrorist Hezbollah organisation was plotting and orchestrating terrorist acts against the Israeli people.

In a late Friday interview with Reuters, a source within the group said that Nasrallah was out of reach.

Hezbollah official privy to the situation said that Nasrallah was alive just several hours after the Friday strike. He was reported safe by Iran’s Tasnim news agency. Access of a senior Iranian security official said that Tehran was verifying status for Reuters.

The attack provoked the latest batch of Israeli raids in Beirut’s southern suburbs and other areas of Lebanon on Saturday morning.
