In Ukraine’s northeastern city of Kharkiv on Tuesday, Russian forces used guided bombs to target a high-rise apartment building and a bakery following the blast, which killed at least three people and injured 34, as per Ukrainian authorities. The lost said that others are believed to be trapped under the debris as rescue missions continue. The strikes, which are part of a sustained campaign, also hit Zaporizhzhia, slightly farther south, wounding seven more people.

Responding to the attacks at X, formerly Twitter, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky responded by saying that the Russian bombs had impacted a residential building, a bakery, and a stadium. ”The MiG era attacked the everyday life of ordinary people,” he said. His words came shortly before world leaders, including Zelensky, commenced meeting at the United Nations General Assembly in New York to address matters touching on security and how to end the current war.

In the press release, Zelensky also focused on the need to stop the Russian attack. Today, interests in the work of the Collective Security and Security of the Future are among the key issues at the UN General Assembly. However, he said it is all about the absence of terror, security, and a future that needs to be secured.

Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov stated that Russia used guided bombs targeting four districts of Kharkiv. Some of the bombs threw minimal devastation. Others fell on residential dwellings; one was the imposing nine-storied apartments where substantial damage was witnessed. The photos of the scene revealed a huge through-opening in the building structure; the several bottom floors were devastated. The structure was shelled during one of the Russian forces’ first operations in 2022 but was repaired at the time preceding the document creation.

It was almost renovated, the windows were glazed, and everything was brought to the state for heating season. The enemy hit it a second time. Terekhov said that most of the damages were in the section that accommodated 82 people at the time of the attack. Of the wounded, one man was identified as 17 years old, while four of the victims were said to be in critical condition.

Ho and Dixon reveal that Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second-largest city and the region around it have become almost regular targets for Moscow-sponsored air raids; the Russians use devastating, accurised glided bombs against which the Ukrainian air defence is unable to do much of anything. 

At the same time, the Russian forces also affected Zaporizhzhia, which has recorded several strikes recently. The regional governor Ivan Fedorov, however, stated that several private homes were burnt down in the attack. Four of the seven people injured in the strike are now receiving hospital treatment. It also had an overnight strike that caused one fatality.

Ukraine insists on raising the intensity of support from partners, pointing to the fact that it is most efficient to strike the planes and airfields from which those guided bombs are launched. 

Although Russia does not admit it directly attacks civilians, the war that has been raging now for more than two and a half years has claimed several thousands of non-combatant lives in Ukraine.
