Donald Trump, the Republican presidential nominee, will meet Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visit to the US next week. Addressing his first campaign rally after the second alleged assassination attempt on Sunday, Trump called Modi ‘fantastic’ while referring to India as a ‘very big abuser’ in the realms of trade.
“He’s fantastic, man, fantastic,” Trump said in a town hall in Flint, Michigan. “So many of these leaders are out there, and they are fantastic.”This here is very tough…I thought many of these leaders are fantastic …They’re not a bit backward. You know the saying. They are playing at the highest level and bringing it against us.
Trump, trailing his Democratic rival, Vice President Kamala Harris, in the vote count for the presidency, did not elaborate on the meeting. From Saturday, he will be in the US to attend a summit of the Quad group leaders (Australia, India, Japan, and the United States) chaired by Biden.
Modi is also planning to attend the United Nations General Assembly in New York and meet some members of the Indian community in America. Both leaders were on cordial terms, especially during Trump’s tenure as a real estate mogul before he became president. In 2020, when Trump visited India, Modi ensured that 125000 people received Trump at an event held at the largest cricket stadium in the world.
