U.S. Warns of Consequences Over Iran’s Alleged Missile Transfer to Russia

Iran arranging for delivery of ballistic missiles to Russia would be a ‘qualitative leap’ In Tehran’s support for Moscow, and the United States is ready to act in response with ‘rather serious repercussions,’ the State Department said on Monday.

“Any supply of Iranian ballistic missiles to Russia would indicate a significant increase in Iran’s support to Russia in its unprovoked invasion of Ukraine,” Patel said while briefing journalists. ‘We have been very candid… that we are ready to provide serious outcomes,’ he declared.

One of the senior revolutionary guard’s commanders has denied the recent social media claims that Iran had delivered missiles to Russia, it has been reported in Monday report and at the exact moment, some Western countries raised fears that the sent by Iran to Russia could be used against conflicts in Ukraine. 

Reuters last week cited sources unknown that Iran had supplied short-range ballistic missiles to Russia, with the story covered by CNN and the Wall Street Journal as well. 

Brigadier Fazlollah Nozari, deputy commander of the Khatam al-Anbia Central Headquarters, was quoted by the Iranian Labour News Agency as saying: “Not a single missile was aimed at Russia, and this statement is some United States psychological operation.”

“Iran is not on the side of the Ukraine-Russia conflict,” Nozari added. Speaking about the reports on Monday, the Kremlin said that Iran is Russia’s partner and the two countries enhance dialogue in all fields.

Last week, Ukraine stated that enhancing and developing the military and strategic cooperation between Tehran and Moscow poses a threat to Ukraine, Europe and the Middle East. It urged the international community to intensify pressure on Iran and Russia.

The United States said on Friday that if Iran sends ballistic missiles to Russia, this would mark a significant escalation in the Ukraine conflict. Relations between Tehran and Moscow have grown closer since Russia sent many troops into Ukraine in February 2022. Iran has already been helping Russia with Shahid drones.
