Palestine & Israel Conflict

11 Palestinians killed in Israeli strikes in schools in Gaza

As a further indication of the severe brutality of Israel’s operation, Gaza-based UNRWA schools were bombed, leading to the death of at least 11 Palestinians, as relayed by the official Palestinian news agency WAFA.

WAFA also reported that the Israeli army targeted the refugees in the al-Shati refugee camp and two schools of UNRWA in the al-Daraj district where the refugees took refuge. The attacks were made all through the night, and they worsened the situation as far as humanitarianism is concerned in the region.

No other parts of the strip were exempt from the attack; the Israeli ground forces pressed on with the shelling of Rafah, which is in the extreme south of the Gaza territory. Newspapers received from WAFA revealed depredation that claimed one young man died and many others injured in the western part of the city. Further, the southerners of Khan Younis also experienced the raiding of the Israelis; women and children constituted most of those trapped in the night attack and killed.

These deadly airstrikes have taken place against the background of increasing global criticism aimed at Israel for its continuous military operation in the Gaza Strip that continues without a pause since an escalation on October 7 due to actions of the Palestinian militant group Hamas.

The field healthcare organizations have reported a catastrophic human toll where the death toll among Palestinians alone has crossed 37,600, 75 percent of whom are women and children, and more than 86,000 other casualties as a direct effect of conflict violence.

The situation is further worsened by the fact that several areas in Gaza have been brought to the ground for more than eight months by continued fighting, further depleting what is already a dire humanitarian situation made worse by limited access to food, clean water, and medical equipment and supplies.

More seriously, Israel is condemned for genocide and recently received judicial orders from the International Court of Justice to halt military actions in Rafah.

The southern city had turned into home to more than 1 million Palestinians fleeing war; however, military escalation started May 6.

While voices against humanitarian intervention are growing louder around the world, the condition in Gaza is grim, and people are definitely in urgent need of a ceasefire and more permanent solutions to the humanitarian crises and civilian shield.
