Women rights in Islam

In the past, debates that only revolved around women’s rights have remained an unfinished issue and it has become the same situation as it was before the emergence of Islam. When people used to bury their daughters alive just to get sacred from the people what others would say about the father whom god has blessed a daughter. At the time those fathers who had sons used to hold big parties in the welcome of their sons and distribute sweets. But when any of them got a daughter they used to feel ashamed and cannot be able to raise their heads in front of others and it has become a very ruined custom that has finished the independence of women from their existence. But at present and in the past few years people haven’t buried their daughters alive but they have snatched their independence from them. In their thinking, a woman is nothing more than a slave.

But before the emergence of Islam, the world has changed its side. Holy Prophet (SAW) bestowed numerous honors upon women, emphasizing their roles as daughters, wives, sisters, and grandmothers. The Prophet (SAW) exemplified the respect for women, especially as mothers, stating that if his mother called him to prayer, he would interrupt his salah to attend to her, underscoring the profound respect for mothers. So we can imagine the worth of women in the face of mothers from the quote of the Holy Prophet (SAW) and how beautifully he described the relationship of mothers to give his umah advice. Moreover, the Prophet’s (SAW) marriages and treatment of his wives serve as practical examples of how to honor and respect women. His affection for his daughters sets a profound example, contrasting starkly with the shameful acts of fathers who buried their daughters. Islam, through the Prophet’s teachings, grants women the autonomy to make life decisions, including marriage.

If we talk about the rights in the case of marriage then women don’t have a right to get married to their own will. If she did she would get punished and seen by the people with bad eyes. People start raising hands on her about her character which makes the women helpless and independent by living in the era of Islam.

Once a girl came to the Holy Prophet (SAW) and said I want to get married with my own will and my parents are going to force marriage of mine. Holy Prophet (SAW) called her parents and asked to get her daughter married where she wanted. This shows that Islam has the right to women that she can make the decisions of her life independently.

Islam endows women and men with equal rights, emphasizing that the most righteous will be favored by Allah. Islam said womens are the garments of their husbands and husbands are garments of theirwives urging sincerity, respect, and the fulfillment of rights.

Before the emergence of Islam women were not only considered slaves but treated worse than animals. The example of Hazrat Khadija (R.A), engaging in import-export businesses while the Prophet (SAW) facilitated her transactions, highlights women’s right to education. The Prophet (SAW) encouraged seeking knowledge tirelessly, even if it meant traveling afar.Islam provides women with rights concerning marriage, divorce, property, and khula. The Quran includes Surah Nisa, dedicated to women’s rights, advocating for equality in education, inheritance, marriage, and fair treatment. Therefore, it is imperative to ensure that women receive the rights Islam has bestowed upon them, fostering their independence in all aspects of life.
