Gaza: Despite the ceasefire resolution in the United Nations, Israeli attacks continue

Despite the immediate ceasefire resolution passed by the United Nations Security Council, the ongoing Israeli-Hamas conflict in Gaza has not stopped.

According to the news agency “AFP”, the resolution was approved on Monday after the non-participation of Israel’s closest ally, the United States.

The resolution calls for an immediate ceasefire for the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, which could lead to a lasting ceasefire.

Israel reacted strongly to the US abstaining from voting because by doing so the US allowed the other 14 members of the Security Council to approve the resolution.

It should be noted that this is the first resolution since the start of the war in Gaza that calls for an immediate end to the fighting.

Washington, on the other hand, insisted that the US’s absence from the Security Council resolution after vetoing several resolutions did not indicate a change in its policy, even though the US has taken a tougher stance towards Israel in recent weeks.

Israel has consistently defended its campaign despite international criticism of its conduct, and angered by the US’s non-participation, Israel canceled a visit to Washington by one of its delegations.

Israel said the U.S. abstention from the vote affected both Israel’s war effort and efforts to release hostages, while Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office called it a US retreat from its consistent position.

On the other hand, the war in Gaza continues unabated.

Israeli jets bombarded the southern Gaza city of Rafah on Tuesday, witnesses said.

15 Palestinians, including children, were martyred as a result of the Zionist army’s bombing of a house in Rafah.

According to the Israeli military, anti-rocket sirens sound in Israeli areas around the Gaza Strip. While Rafah, like other areas around the Gaza Strip, is often hit by Israeli attacks, it is the only part of the area where Israel has not sent ground troops.

Benjamin Netanyahu’s decision to launch a ground operation in Rafah, a city on Gaza’s southern border, where most of the area’s population is a refugee, has become a major point of contention between Israel and the United States.

It should be noted that the conflict began with the attacks of Hamas on October 7, which resulted in the deaths of approximately 1,160 people in Israel, most of whom were civilians, in addition to the capture of Israeli hostages by Hamas.

Voicing its determination to destroy Hamas and free prisoners, Israel has continued to bombard and conduct ground attacks on Gaza’s coastal areas.

On Monday, the Ministry of Health reported the number of Palestinians martyred in the Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip at 32,333, most of whom are women and children.
