Israeli attack on Aleppo, many people feared dead

Hours after an Israeli bombing from the direction of the Golan targeted a residential building in the Damascus countryside governorate, violent explosions sounded near Aleppo Airport.

Israel launched raids on weapons depots near the airport, which led to the deaths of more than 36 civilians and soldiers, according to what the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported on Friday.

He also explained that the attack “targeted missile depots belonging to the Lebanese Hezbollah in the Jibreen area near Aleppo International Airport.”

He also added, “Similar explosions were heard in Al-Safira and Kafr Joum, west of Aleppo, while the sounds of explosions continue until now, amid confirmed information about the killing and wounding of dozens of soldiers as a result of explosions in warehouses.”

5 Hezbollah members killed

Meanwhile, two security sources revealed that the Israeli strikes led to the killing of 5 Hezbollah members, according to Reuters.

This came after the Syrian Ministry of Defense announced in a statement that a number of civilians and soldiers were killed or wounded in an attack that Israel accused of launching on points in the Aleppo countryside. It explained that the bombing occurred at a quarter to two after midnight, local time, from the direction of Ariya, southeast of Aleppo.

It also indicated that the bombing coincided with what it described as “a drone attack carried out by terrorist organizations from Idlib and the western countryside of Aleppo in an attempt to target civilians in the city of Aleppo and its environs.”

It also confirmed the occurrence of material losses to public and private property.

Yesterday, Thursday, Israeli raids also targeted sites of factions loyal to Iran and Hezbollah in the Damascus countryside, wounding five Syrian “militants” working with Hezbollah.

While the Observatory explained that the injured worked as guards at a headquarters that was targeted by Israeli strikes in the Al-Bahdalia area, near the Sayyida Zeinab area in the Damascus countryside.

The war is spreading in the region

It is noteworthy that since the outbreak of the war in the Gaza Strip between Israel and Hamas, on the seventh of last October, Israeli strikes have escalated on Syrian sites belonging to Hezbollah or a number of Iranian-backed militias, as more than six officers from the Iranian Revolutionary Guard were killed in suspected Israeli raids. Since last December.

This prompted the Revolutionary Guard to reduce the deployment of its senior officers on Syrian territory, and plans to rely more on the factions allied with it to maintain its influence there, according to what was previously reported by Reuters.

While the number of Israeli strikes since the beginning of 2024 has reached 25, 17 of which are air and 8 are ground, according to the Observatory’s statistics.

These strikes resulted in the injury and destruction of about 49 targets, including weapons and ammunition depots, headquarters, centers, and vehicles.

It also led to the killing of 43 Syrian soldiers, in addition to wounding 21 others with varying injuries.
