China “Strongly Opposes” The Inclusion of Taiwan in The Congressional Aid Bill

On Wednesday, China’s Taiwan Affairs Office said that Beijing vehemently opposes including Taiwan-related content in a package of four bills passed by the US Congress that include military aid to Taipei.

The office spokesman said that China urged the United States to fulfill its commitment not to support Taiwan’s independence with concrete measures and to stop arming it in any way.

Taiwan’s military said on Sunday it would discuss with the United States how to use Taipei funding included in the $95 billion legislative package as Chinese warplanes conduct maneuvers near the island again.

The United States is Taiwan’s most important international supporter and arms supplier, even without official diplomatic relations. China, which considers Taiwan its territory, has repeatedly demanded a halt to arms sales.

“We are also delighted that the Senate just passed these bills,” Tsai said at her meeting with visiting American lawmakers at the presidential office in Taipei.
