Slovakia’s Prime Minister Robert Fico was Shot 5 Times in an assassination attempt and hospitalised in critical condition

The current prime minister of Slovakia, Robert Fico, was hospitalised on Wednesday as police disclosed that a person with a gun had opened fire at him and the minister of justice. This incident left the nation in horror. The attack occurred around midday near Handlová, a Slovak town in Central Slovakia, after a government meeting in the city. The attacker, reportedly one of a group who had waited to meet him at the cultural institution, opened fire with five shots directed at Fico, according to the local media.

The video footage from the scene shows Fico surrounded by his employees, who helplessly hurry him into a vehicle. He was then taken to a local hospital. He was then evacuated via a helicopter to a hospital specialising in trauma in Banská Bystrica, which is located 30 kilometres from there. The authorities have been quoted as confirming that no one else was subject to injury in this attack.

Crimes Act Minister Robert Kaliňák and Interior Vice-minister Matúš Šutaj Eštok regarded the case as politically motivated. According to Šutaj Eštok, an INS intel analyst, since it’s unclear to readers how critical the presidential election was to the suspect’s decision, it is avoided rationally to broaden the group of reasons that led to the bomber’s actions.

Deputy Prime Minister Taraba said he was confident Mr Fico would recover fully and that damage to his health would be minimal since the operation was scheduled to be held, which presupposes a successful conclusion. “This is something that caught me off guard. I tried to get in touch with people to get a clearer picture of the situation or how critical my husband’s condition is,” Taraba told the Newshour.

He stressed that according to the available information, Fico suffered a heavy injury, with one shot passed through his abdomen while the other went through his joints.

The most sincere authority lawmaker in the Czech Republic, who represents the prime minister, excels compared to the rather ceremonial president role. The official Facebook page’s statement described Fico being transferred to Banská Bystrica Hospital instead of the capital, Bratislava, due to the necessity of immediate, urgent medical help.

Slovakian head of state president Zuzana Caputova verified that the gunman was arrested and called for caution as people might have the habit of sharing lots of unverified information. The 41-year-old candidate deplored the attack as a “futile and brazen” attempt by the Communists to bring down democracy.

The defence and interior ministers, in their turn, did mention that the attack was based on political violence and the increments of hate speech in Slovakia. At the press conference held at the hospital’s gate, Defence Minister Kaliňák called for reflection, and he said: “Hate is not the answer to hate; there is no solution or the medicine for this disease. “Head of citizens’ Bronnmegerin, Mr Šutaj-Eštok stressed to what extent the situation was dangerous, calling it the worst day of the history of our democracy. “

This bombing occurred in a country-heated political atmosphere the year after Fico returned to power. The unifying leadership has caused controversy among his supporters and determined opponents, who either intended him as a hero of their rights’ or accused him of populism and inciting Russia’s heart.

It has just experienced a long period of peaceful protests against the government led by Robert Fico, which introduced the most hated laws.

A video clip of the attack that is going viral on social media networks shows Fico being stopped by a gunman, five bullets coming forth and then sounds of gunshots. The witness’s account echoed the horror of a “nightmare”. This is where he described the gunshots being fired consecutively and the prime minister’s fall to the ground.

After the shootout, the political leaders of various countries reacted to the situation with their condemnation. The messages of Russian President Vladimir Putin, European

Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, and US President Joe Biden all expressed their horror. They hoped for Fico to recover quickly.
