Israeli Airstrikes on Safe Zone in Rafah: At Least 40 People Burned Alive

Arab countries, organisations and international bodies condemned it on Monday. This Israeli bombing targeted a gathering of tents for displaced Palestinians in Rafah, which, according to the Palestinian Civil Defense, led to the death of at least 40 people and the injury of 65 others.

This is what many countries had previously warned bodies about before the Israeli forces launched a military operation in Rafah, south of the Gaza Strip, at the beginning of this month.

A hideous massacre:

On Monday, the Palestinian presidency and Hamas accused Israel of committing a “massacre” by targeting a centre for displaced people near the city of Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip. At the same time, the Israeli army said it bombed a Hamas compound to liquidate leaders of the movement.

The Palestinian presidency said, in a statement, that “the Israeli occupation forces committing this heinous massacre is a challenge to all resolutions of international legitimacy,” accusing the Israeli forces of “deliberately targeting the tents of the displaced in Rafah.

The Ministry of Health in Gaza announced earlier that at least 35 people were killed and dozens of others were injured in the Israeli bombing that targeted the centre for the displaced in the Tal Al-Sultan neighbourhood.

According to Agence France-Presse, Hamas called on the Palestinians to “rise and go out with angry marches” against the “massacre” committed by the Israeli army. The movement said, in a statement: “In light of the horrific Zionist massacre, this evening, committed by the criminal occupation army against the tents of the displaced… we call on the masses of our people in the West Bank, Jerusalem, the occupied interior and abroad to rise and go out with angry marches against the massacre.

The Ministry of Health in Gaza said that the Israeli raids killed 35 martyrs and dozens of wounded so far, most of them children and women.

For its part, the government media office in Gaza said, The Israeli occupation committed a horrific massacre through a concentrated and intentional bombardment of the UNRWA barracks displacement centre northwest of Rafah governorate. He added that the bombing led to the death of 30 martyrs and dozens of injuries.

As for the Civil Defense in Gaza, it said that the Israeli bombing led to the death and injury of at least 50 people in an area to which 100,000 people were displaced.

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia announced its condemnation and denunciation in the strongest terms of “the continued massacres of the Israeli occupation forces, and their continued targeting of defenceless civilians in the Gaza Strip,” the latest of which is the targeting of tents of displaced Palestinians near UNRWA warehouses northwest of Rafah.

In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Saudi Arabia affirmed “the sector’s rejection of the continued blatant violations by the Israeli occupation forces of all international and humanitarian resolutions, laws, and norms.”

Egypt described the Israeli bombing of the tents of displaced persons in Rafah, according to a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as a “tragic event.” She continued: “Egypt called on Israel to comply with its legal obligations as an occupying power and to implement the measures issued by the International Court of Justice regarding the immediate cessation of military operations and any other measures in the Palestinian city of Rafah.”
