Donald Trump Becomes the First US President Convicted of Crime for falsifying documents

Historically, for the first time in the history of the United States of America, a former president, Donald Trump, has been convicted of a crime. The New York jury said that Trump provided false statements to the authorities regarding a payment he made to a porn star before the 2016 election to buy her silence.

The jury of 12 members took two days to give their verdict and pronounce Trump guilty of 34 felony charges. Taking no particular expression on their face, Trump observed as each of the jurors affirmed the judgment.

Judge Juan Merchan has fixed the date for the sentence for July 11, just a few days before the Republican Party is likely to officially nominate Trump for the November 5 election formally. It is against the law to forge business records, and it is punishable by up to four years in prison, although other sentencing may involve fining and probation. Imprisonment will not be a legal bar to campaigning or being sworn in if Trump triumphs.

Trump is not behind bars but will be after the trial; before that, he will continue to be at the country’s helm.

This conviction launched the United States into the unknown as the former president, Trump, vied to regain the presidency from the incumbent Democratic President, Joe Biden. 77 has been accused of the crimes, and he has persistently declined any culpability. His law firm has threatened to litigate the decision immediately.

It was a disgusting act,” Trump said to scientists after the anger, exercising his right of non-guilt while at the same time accusing the trial of being one-sided against him. “The actual judgment will be on November 5, when the country’s destiny shall be sealed. ”

Trump was seen waving and giving a thumbs-up through the Windows of a tinted car as his motorcade left the courthouse. On the outside, believers, media people, police officers, and curious people came around, which illustrates the community’s interest.

Early national opinion polls suggest that the race is close between Trump and Biden, 81, with a more recent Reuters/Ipsos poll indicating that a guilty verdict could cost Trump the votes of independent and Republican voters.

Despite this, many consider this case to be one of the least severe of the four criminal charges against Trump; however, due to its timing, this case will undoubtedly be the only one whose verdict will be made before the voting. Procedural hitches also slow down the other cases.

The jury returned the guilty verdict after a five-week trial in which adult film actress Stormy Daniels testified on details of an alleged affair she had with Trump in 2006 while he was still with his then-wife. Trump denies this. Michael Cohen, who used to be Trump’s attorney, stated that Trump had his approval of the payment of 130 thousand dollars to Daniels during the campaign period of 2016. He said that he controlled the payment and that Trump paid him through instalments, which he described as legal fees.

Trump’s defence team accused Cohen of being a dishonest criminal and accused him of perjuring himself. Judge Merchan also warned the jurors to dissect what Cohen had to say carefully. According to retired NY judge George Grasso, The deliberation time spoke to the idea that jurors identified enough proof to back Cohen’s claims.

Speaking on the verdict, a person well informed on Trump’s campaign alluded that there will likely be heightened debates on choosing a female VP candidate. The website for Trump’s campaign described him as a political prisoner with restricted freedom of movement and called on the supporters to donate.

President Biden’s campaign came out to say that the verdict only depicts that no individual is above the law and insisted that the voters reject Trump in the upcoming election. “There is still only one way to keep Donald Trump out of the Oval Office: at the ballot box,” the campaign said; the re-elected President Ahmadinejad also played a significant part in this violence and should be, therefore, be made to take political responsibility for the said violence. The White House refused to be drawn on the issue.

Fellow Republicans protested against the decision of the jury, and Trump was, as usual, immediately joined by the condemnation. House Speaker Mike Johnson called it a shameful day in American history. ‘

The other day, Trump asserted that he would appeal the case, mainly on the strength of Daniels’ testimony and the prosecution’s unusual legal theory; however, specialists do not think the president has a great chance of winning the verdict.

American law requires that charges against Trump be proven beyond a reasonable doubt, which, in a way, the prosecutors did. Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg said, “We did our job, that’s all. The voice that matters here is the voice of the jury, and the jury has spoken. ”

The case, which was based on forged ledger accounts and reimbursement records, had been dropped only to be revived by Bragg when his predecessor declined to prosecute the issue. The so-called “zombie case” can be mentioned as one of the remarkable episodes of the USA’s legal and political systems.

If he wins the election, a second term for Trump can end federal cases against him on two grounds: attempts to overturn the loss in the 2020 election or improperly mishandling classified documents. However, he would not be able to stop another election subversion case that was to happen in Georgia. Trump has denied all the allegations against him and his legal fight as the attempts of Biden’s supporters to bring him down.
