China’s President Xi has called for a peace conference to address the ‘tremendous suffering’ in Gaza

Chinese President Xi Jinping called for holding an international peace conference focusing on ending the war in the Gaza Strip, pledging to provide more humanitarian aid to the Palestinians, noting that his country will also offer support worth $3 million to UNRWA to assist the residents of the Gaza Strip.

The Chinese President said – in a speech during the opening session of the tenth ministerial meeting of the Arab-Chinese Cooperation Forum, which began its work in the Chinese capital, Beijing, today, Thursday – that his country will provide additional aid to the Palestinians to alleviate the humanitarian crisis and rebuild the Gaza Strip.

He said that at a time when the escalating war is causing great suffering in the Gaza Strip, justice should not be absent forever, and the two-state solution should not be shaken. The current war in Gaza should not continue indefinitely, stressing that his country will continue its support for efforts aimed at alleviating the severity of the humanitarian crisis and restoring… Reconstruction of the Gaza Strip after the end of the war.

He added that the Chinese side firmly supports the establishment of an independent, fully sovereign State of Palestine on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital and Palestine’s obtaining full membership in the United Nations. He called on Arab countries to deepen cooperation in trade, clean energy, space exploration, and health care.

The Chinese President stressed that his country desires to build strong relations with Arab countries to maintain international peace and stability. He pointed out that China is ready to work with Arab countries to resolve pressing issues, preserve the principles of justice and fairness, and achieve sustainable peace and stability.

The Chinese President said that his country will host the second Arab-Chinese summit in 2026, stressing that the existing friendship and ties between China and the Arab countries stem from friendly exchanges on the ancient Silk Road, the joint struggle to achieve national independence, and cooperation based on mutual gain in the construction process. 

He continued, saying that Chinese-Arab relations are constantly rising to new levels in the new century. He noted that in December 2022, he attended the first Chinese-Arab summit in Riyadh, where he agreed with Arab leaders to make all efforts to build the Chinese-Arab community for a shared future.

He added that the Chinese side expressed satisfaction with the extent to which the outcomes of the first Sino-Arab summit were implemented, expressing its readiness to work with the Arab side to activate the summit’s strategic leadership role and achieve successive breakthroughs in Sino-Arab relations.

The Chinese President expressed his happiness at attending the opening session of the tenth ministerial meeting of the China-Arab Cooperation Forum, pointing out that he feels pride and warmth whenever he meets with Arab friends.

The Chinese President added, “In light of the accelerating pace of changes that the world has not witnessed in a hundred years, China and the Arab countries today bear a responsibility to accomplish the tasks of the era of achieving national renaissance and accelerating the pace of national construction.

He noted that the Chinese-Arab community’s building of a shared future embodies our aspirations to open a new era and future for Chinese-Arab relations. The Chinese side is keen on solidarity and synergy with the Arab side to build Chinese-Arab relations as a role model for maintaining peace and stability in the world.

He said that mutual respect is the way to achieve harmonious coexistence and that fairness and justice are the pillars of permanent security, expressing his country’s readiness to work with the Arab side to find solutions to hot issues that contribute to preserving fairness and justice and achieving lasting security and safety, based on respect for the purposes and principles of the United Nations Charter and independent choices. He pointed out China’s keenness to work with the Arab side in the spirit of tolerance to build Chinese-Arab relations as a role model for harmonious coexistence between various civilisations. He added that promoting dialogue and tolerance means reducing confrontation and differences.

He stressed the Chinese side’s keenness to intensify coordination and cooperation with the Arab side to build Chinese-Arab relations as a role model for exploring the right path to global governance.
