Humanitarian Crisis in Gaza: More than 3500 Children at Risk Amid Ongoing Siege of Israel

Gaza authorities have provided a local calamity cry out due to more than 3,500 children in Gaza suffering from food shortages as a result of the tightened siege by Israel and closure of aid crossings.

Responding to the situation, the Government Media Office based in Gaza said on Tuesday that the region is headed towards famine in the shortest time possible, with the Israelis and Americans being accused of plotting to ensure that no assistance is allowed to flow into the area.

The following quote from the statement can further illustrate this: “3,500 children are in danger of dying because they are not receiving enough food and drink, or basic nutrients or vaccines, now on the list of items banned from entering Gaza by Israel. ”

The statement went further on to denounce the crime of blocking food and medicine and the escalation of the suffering of Palestinians in Gaza.

Using the international media to deliver its message, this media office wanted the world to take immediate action to stop what the group claims is going on in Gaza; it has called for an immediate end to what it says is now an official policy of starvation of the Palestinian people in the area and wanted open border crossings to allow aid to enter Gaza unhindered.

Currently, over fifty thousand children in Gaza are said to be in dire need of proper nutrition services, as assessed by UNRWA.

The attack by Hamas on October 7, 2023, led to a military campaign against Israel’s Gaza Strip; the campaign is still on despite calls for an immediate ceasefire by the UN Security Council.

From the onset of the operation, local health facilities have recorded 37,350 Palestinian deaths, the majority being women and children, and at least 85,400 more persons injured.

Gaza is in ruins after eight months of the battleground; people are starving, with no clean drinking water and insufficient medical supplies due to the blockade.

Currently, Israel is facing the International Court of Justice on allegations of perpetrating genocide. In its last but one decision, the court ordered Tel Aviv to stop the activity immediately in Rafah, where over a million Palestinians had fled conflict before it was invaded on May 6.
