Nicola Coughlan Raises $2 Million for Palestine Children’s Relief Fund

Irish actor Nicola Coughlan celebrated as Penelope Featherington in Netflix’s hit series Bridgerton, has substantially impacted the situation by raising $2 million for the Palestine Children’s Relief Fund (PCRF) through her social media campaigns.

Coughlan also actively participates in fundraising and aids the cause by donating her own money. The PCRF stressed that global donations let them deliver necessities and other vital support to children in the Middle East, including food, clean water, clothes, medical attention, etc.

Expressing their gratitude on X, formerly known as Twitter, the PCRF stated: “Thank you to actor and Bridgerton star Nicola Coughlan for your incredible support of PCRF and your fundraising efforts, which totaled an astonishing $2M in support of our Urgent Gaza Relief and Recovery efforts. Thank you for using your voice to inspire support for peace and impacting the lives of thousands of displaced children and families in dire need, providing them with humanitarian aid and medical relief.”

Other than the financial assistance, Coughlan has been vocal about the suffering of Palestinian people, especially during the Bridgerton series’ promotions. It pins the Artists for Ceasefire symbol during photo shoots or other activities she is involved in.

In an interview with USA Today, Coughlan shared the motivation behind her efforts: “I’m doing my dream job, and I’m getting to travel the world, but I’m hyper-aware of what’s happening in Rafah at the moment.”

As for the Middle East, this tie is highly intimate to Coughlan. Her father participated when the UN organized the Truce Supervision Organisation, and the family was based in Jerusalem in the late 1970s. She said about her father’s work, “He went to a lot of regions affected by the conflict after the war and attempted to address the issues,” which has inspired her a lot.

Speaking to Teen Vogue in April, Coughlan articulated her moral responsibility: “I think if I can hopefully raise funds for aid organizations, it would be a wonderful thing to do.”  She also disclosed people in Hollywood have warned her about openly supporting Palestinian rights but has remained steadfast in her advocacy for a ceasefire in Gaza.

“You do get told that you won’t get work, you won’t do this, but I also think, deep down, if you know that you’re coming from a place of: I don’t want any innocent people to suffer, then I’m not worried about people’s reactions,” she said.

Nicola Coughlan’s actions show that public personalities can exert colossal pressure to insist on humanitarian initiatives. Her efforts and consistent support for Palestinian children have also significantly impacted money and morale, thus stressing the need to use one’s status to make a positive impact in the world.
