Elon Musk to Move SpaceX and X Headquarters from California to Texas Over New Gender Identity Law
California schools will no longer allow teachers in the state to disclose the gender transition of a student to the child’s parents due to a new law that angered Elon Musk into promising to take both SpaceX and X, formerly known as Twitter, to Texas.
The move follows California’s Governor Gavin Newsom, who signed an unprecedented law prohibiting schools from adopting practices that compel teachers to out students who prefer to be referred to by a different name or pronoun.
“This is the last straw,” Musk said on X. “Due to this law and the other hundreds of thousands that preceded it waging war on families as well as companies, SpaceX will be relocating from Hawthorne, California, to Starbase, Texas. ”
Nevertheless, for currently advocating legislation, Musk’s feelings spoke directly to Governor Newsom, claiming that such legislation would force families and companies to leave California to protect their children, with Musk himself having an adult transsexual daughter.
Later, in the second blog post, Musk outlined an intention to move the headquarters of X from San Francisco to Austin because it was almost impossible to avoid ‘gangs of violent drug addicts’ while coming and going to the building.
This decision was preceded by Musk’s preference for Texas in other choices. In 2021, he moved Tesla’s headquarters from Palo Alto in Silicon Valley to Austin, Texas, and he also changed his legal residence from California, reporting to Texas. However, even today, Tesla is the world leader in the car manufacturing industry and the world’s most valuable car company, and it has an “engineering headquarters” in California.
Elon, the newly titled richest man on earth, has quickly drawn closer to Texas: the states that militantly don’t have either corporate or income tariffs. His political positioning based on opinions has become louder, especially after purchasing X in 2022, and he has often criticized policies and leaders that he deems liberal or ‘’woke. ’’

However, Texas has been traditionally recognized as the red state where all three branches of state power belong to the Republican Party.
The planned move of SpaceX and X will impact California and Texas in many ways. Consumers and employees of California will suffer losses because they will be left jobless because of the lack of major companies like Experian and Anthem to provide them with employment opportunities. On the other hand, the changes will be positive for Texas as it will be given two more large companies’ headquarters.
Musk’s actions also demonstrate a conspicuous cleavage in culture and politics in the United States of America, whereby companies and individuals make their decisions daily based on state laws and polity. Despite this, Musk’s voice and that of Tesla continue to carry a lot of sway in influencing public opinion and corporate policies, which Musk actively speaks out against as and when he feels they are unfavorable.
