Israeli Airstrike Kills Pregnant Mother in Gaza, Baby Miraculously Survives

During the attack on Gaza, a pregnant woman was killed in the Israeli air raid, while her baby was returned to a working hospital intakers’ room after the mother’s carcass was brought to the delivery room, medical authorities said.

The mother, 25-year-old Ola el Kurd was nine months pregnant when she was killed in an air strike of the Nuseirat camp in central Gaza. However, due to the tragedy, doctors at Al Awda Hospital in northern Gaza were able to effectively deliver her baby boy. Dr Khalil Dajran of the hospital has established that the baby is conscious but endured oxygen lack and is now in an incubator.

The death of Ola el Kurd is another round of sad narrative of survival; before being killed in the above Israeli air strike, she once cheated death, in a similar style, four months ago, which saw her seven brothers and parents buried alive. Her husband, Anas Yassin, was also injured in the very same attack that caused her death. He is admitted to the same hospital with the newborn baby, a baby boy, who has not been christened yet.

The airstrike that caused Ola el Kurd’s death was one of two Israeli strikes on the Nuseirat camp on Friday that killed fourteen people. Of the victims, the casualties included three women people and two children people. While seven of the victims were rushed to Al Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in Deir al Balah the other victims including Ola el Kurd were taken to Al Awda Hospital.

The current and consistent military strikes from the Israel defence force through inflicting air, land and sea strikes, have caused great loss of civilian lives. Palestinian casualties have been estimated at 38 thousand with the majority of them being women and children, and over 89 thousand who have been injured. The vigour of the rivalry has also caused the forced eviction of a majority of Gaza’s 2 million people. 3 million residents making the already bad humanitarian situation in the densely-populated coastal area even worse.

Even though this conflict has seen a lot of loss of the civilian population and widespread destruction, it still receives controversies from the global community. Now after six months, the humanitarian crisis is still severe in the Gaza Strip as all the medical facilities are full of people who have been injured and all the necessary facilities are destroyed.

Such is the ongoing fighting, stories like the one about Ola el Kurd and her baby show what a human tragedy the war is. It is such a small ray of hope to find that her baby survived such a tragedy considering the many that have happened in the region. But it also implies the necessity to find a solution to the conflict and stop the shooting of innocent people and the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
