Biden urges for Gaza Ceasefire and Hostage deal in his meeting with Netanyahu

The President of the United States, Joe Biden, emphasized the need to eliminate the remaining differences to sign a ceasefire and propose a Gaza hostage deal when meeting with Benjamin Netanyahu, the Prime Minister of Israel, as the White House informed on Thursday.

When the two leaders met at the White House, both embraced the new moves taken in Gaza and the continuing outcomes regarding the swap narrative of the ceasefire and hostage release.

“A closing the remaining gaps, getting the deal as soon as possible, bringing all the hostages and putting the bottom on the conflict in Gaza,” President Biden pointed out in the statement.

Regarding Gaza, Biden also spoke about the dire humanitarian situation there and called for removing restrictions on the delivery of aid to the region and the restoration of the reconstruction of basic infrastructure. He pointed to the importance of sparing the non-combatants, especially during military intervention.

Self-described ‘committed’ partner to Israel, Biden ‘re-affirmed the United States’ steadfast support for Israel’s security against Iran and its proxies including Hamas, Hezbollah, and Houthis as well, the statement added.

It was the first time Netanyahu could come to the White House after Biden’s inauguration in 2021, and the relations between the two countries were armful. But, calls for a truce to end the current destruction and loss of lives in Gaza have been increasing from the international community. The death toll is almost 40,000.

He also met with the Vice President, Kamala Harris, a lady who was very concerned with the plight of civilians in Gaza.

“I stated my severe worry regarding the deteriorating humanitarian crisis there and 2.2 million people in need of food Insecurity, fifty thousand five hundred thirty people being on the edge of the acute food Insecurity,” Harris said to reporters after her bilaterals with Netanyahu.

The meeting occurred the day following Netanyahu’s speech to the entire U. S. Congress, in which he said that the Gaza conflict has one of the smallest ratios of combatants to non-combatant fatalities in the history of warfare in urban areas.

However, the continued conflict has had the unfortunate side effect of diluting Biden’s popularity among Democrats. Harris would greatly benefit from a ceasefire because she is planning to launch her presidential campaign after Biden released a statement stating that he is leaving office and supporting Harris to succeed him.

They wanted to secure the ceasefire, or at least achieve a certain level of calm, with more than passing reference to the fact that it would benefit Harris getting elected president in conjunction with Biden’s stepping down for her in the following months. Thus, having produced a positive change in the context of the ongoing conflict and affecting public opinion, the agreement’s favorable outcome may contribute to improving the administration’s image nationally and internationally.
