Palestine & Israel Conflict

Gaza receives 80 bodies of unidentified Palestinians from Israel: officials

Palestinian Civil Defence agency in Gaza is alleged to have received & buried 80 unidentified Palestinians from Israel, as stated by the agency’s Director, Yamen Abu Suleiman, on Monday. In total, 15 bags were brought. The average in each was more than four corpses wearing one shroud, and all were buried in a common grave.

Abu Suleiman reported that the Israeli authorities did not brief them about the casualties and their background in any way. ”We don’t know if they are martyrs slain in Gaza or prisoners from Israeli jails,” he concluded.

Vid from Gaza Health Ministry, sharp men in Hazmat suits are examining the bodies covered with blue plastic as they are stacked in a shipping container. The scenes illustrated how the bodies were drained of cash by having them laid down for burial in a shallow grave in sand.

Journalists also stated that they were later buried at the Turkish cemetery in the vicinity of the main city of the southern Gaza Strip, known as Khan Younis.

 Grieving Families Seek Closure

Demands for the identification of the dead bodies and the continuation of the delivery of the unidentified bodies have put many families in Gaza in a very hard state. This was witnessed by a displaced woman, Salwa Karaz of Gaz City, who went looking for his 32-year-old son, Marwan, who went missing in January at the Turkish cemetery. Marwan, a father of an eight-month-old son, was last seen cycling out of their shack in Deir al Balah, central Gaza.

’When we were told 80 bodies had been surrendered to mortuaries, we rushed here to look for his body among those brought in’, Karaz stated. She is concerned but still has not been given any information about him. “We will attempt to find him through his attire; he had brown trousers, a navy blue shirt, a black jacket, and beige boots on,” she said.

 Hamas Condemns Israel’s Actions

Immediately after the unidentified bodies were delivered, Hamas came out in the media to rail at Israel. The statement underlined the fact that giving bodies without identification only increases the pain of the families who are trying to know the fate of their dear ones or to give them a decent burial.

“Adding to the suffering of the families of martyrs and the missing is the Azerbaijani Israels’ delivery of bodies without identification,” the statement stated. In this document, families were encouraged to be informed about the abducted children or martyrs so that they could be buried accordingly.

Mass grave refers to the burial of many unidentified bodies, thus depicting the daily suffering of the people of Gaza in the conflict as families look for their loved ones. The absence of information from Israeli authorities also makes the emotional and psychological aspects for these families very difficult, which highlights the importance of issues related to identifying and informing people about the remains of the deceased in the war.
