US Deploys F-22 Fighter Jets to Middle East Amid Rising Tensions
WASHINGTON, D. C.: Amidst fresh tension in the Middle East, the United States Central Command (CENTCOM) declared on Thursday that F-22 fighter jets have been sent to the region to boost pressure on Iran. This move reflects shifts in the structure of the U.S. military in addressing possible regional incitement posed by Iran or any group affiliated with it.
It is preceded by the gastrointestinal murky in Tehran that struck Hamas political figure Ismail Haniyeh on July 31 and Hezbollah chief colonel Fuad Shukr, who was killed in Beirut on July 30. These and other similar conflicts have undoubtedly contributed to raising tensions to a much higher level all over the Middle Eastern countries.
Nevertheless, threats and implications or otherwise, both Hamas and Iran have pointed fingers at Israel following Haniyeh’s assassination. Still, the officials of the Israeli government have not accepted or denied their involvement in the said assassination plot. Given this event’s occurrence in Iranian territory, Iran has threatened to respond with ‘harsh punishment to Israel, hence escalating the tensions.
This is probably because the party – Hezbollah in Lebanon, with armed factions, may want to retaliate after Shukr was killed by an Israeli air strike in a southern suburb of Beirut on Sunday. The group has been allegedly linked closely with Iran and openly holds a significantly hostile attitude toward Israel, which is the foundation of the perception of a more significant conflict.
Hence, there is evidence that the U. S has wanted to strengthen its military power in the region due to these changes. Out of this move that Washington has deemed fitting to employ F-22 fighter jets, it has restated its shielding of Israel from any Iranian attacks. On Friday, the United States announced it would send more of its force to the region as steps were taken to avoid escalation.
But the U. S has gone on to defend itself, asserting that it had no part or knowledge of the killing of Haniyeh and has continued to do so. Washington has called on both Iran and Israel to stop provoking the other while at the same time insisting on stability in the region.
The setting to these incidents is the continuous operation blitz in the Gaza Strip area, which the Israelis aim at, that has claimed the lives of close to forty thousand, three hundred and sixty-five Palestinians. Because of this attack made by Hamas, the Palestinian resistance group killed 1,139 Israelis on October 7.
