Palestine & Israel Conflict

Trump Urges Quick End to Israel-Gaza Conflict, Criticizes Ceasefire Demands

In a press conference that he conducted on Thursday, the Republican candidate for the presidency of the United States—Donald Trump, who is a former president, said that when he met with the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in July, he told the later to end the war in Gaza as soon as possible. Trump insisted on a speedy conclusion: “It has to get over with fast. Get your victory and get it over with. It has to stop The killing has to stop. ”

The tripartite conversation was held in late July between Trump and Netanyahu, the latter of whom was visiting the US; the former was hosted in his residence in Mar-a-Lago. In the U.S., Netanyahu also powwowed with President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, a Democratic presidential aspirant.

Things are starting to hot up in the Middle East again in the wake of the recent assassinations of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Iran and Hezbollah’s Chief of Staff, Fuad Shukr, in Beirut. Both these incidents have upped the possibility of a large-scale conflict as both involved threats of some form of aggression against Israel.

In the evening on Thursday, speaking at a rally devoted to countering antisemitism, Trump sought to portray Biden and Harris as unpatriotic due to their continued calls for a ceasefire in Gaza, which they have been making for months. ‘Since the start, Harris has been focused on requiring Israel to surrender its ability to defend itself, this immediate ceasefire that Harris is so obsessed with, always ceasefire,” Trump said. He pointed out that the cease-fire would just give Hamas time to recover and perhaps organise another raid like that of October 7.

‘I will give Israel all the support that it requires to triumph, but, yes, I do wish for them to triumph shortly,’ Trump said.

On the same occasion, Trump also asked supporters of Palestinians to stop demanding the cessation of US support to Israel’s operations.

He called them “pro-Hamas thugs” and “jihad sympathizers,” then said he’d have them arrested and deported if he were president.

On Thursday, Netanyahu’s office and Trump denied separate ACCESS reports suggesting that they discussed the Gaza ceasefire and hostage release talks the previous day. The report sourced two American sources, one of which was privy to the call and said it intended to coax Netanyahu into accepting the ceasefire deal. However, the source could not elaborate on how Trump spoke to Netanyahu on the issue.

The Biden administration has been calling for a ceasefire in Gaza since May, and Biden unveiled a three-stage plan on May 31. Although Washington and regional mediations have remained committed to negotiating a ceasefire-for-hostages deal, the following challenges have slowed progress.

It is pretty appalling that as Egypt, the United States, and Qatar plan to sit for another round of Gaza ceasefire talks this week, the conditions remain horrific. The most recent round of a long-standing conflict between Israel and the Palestinians started October 7, when the Hamas militant group attacked Israel, killing 1,200 and taking about 250 hostages, by Israeli accounts.

In return, the Israeli forces have been conducting a military operation in Gaza; more than 40,000 Palestinians have been killed, according to Gaza’s health ministry information. The ongoing conflict has also brought about near displacement of the entire population from the 2. Three million residents of the Gaza Strip have evoked the hunger issue and genocide accusations against Israel that are non-acknowledged by the latter.
