The US has imposed sanctions on Chinese suppliers involved in Pakistan’s ballistic missile program

The United States has blocked Chinese suppliers and a Pakistani firm for their role in Pakistan’s ballistic missile system, a US official said on Thursday. More specifically, in a statement, the US Department of State said it would impose measures against five entities and one person for violating the Missile Technology Control Regime (MTCR) by supplying missile technologies.

Among the sanctioned is the Beijing Research Institute of Automation for Machine Building Industry (RIAMB), which the US warned is connected to Pakistan’s National Development Complex (NDC), which has been playing a critical role in the development of Pakistan’s long-range ballistic missiles.

The sanctions also affect three other Chinese companies, one Chinese citizen and a Pakistani, all of whom are said to have been supporting Pakistan’s missile program. “Such sanctions are being applied because these entities and a person acted knowingly transferring equipment and technologies listed in MTCR Annex to a country that is not a member of the MTCR,” the statement added.

The sanctions come a few months after the United States made a similar move in April, where the US banned four Belarusian and Chinese companies for providing missile-related materials to Pakistan’s long-range missile system.

Some companies involved are Belarus’ Minsk Wheel Tractor Plant and China’s Xi’an Longde Technology Development Company Limited. Establishing an account, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan, Mumtaz Zahra Baloch, did not comment on the new sanctions at Anadolu’s request.
