A Hamas delegation is in Cairo to discuss a truce proposal, while Israel awaits positive signals from the mediators

A delegation from the Hamas movement will arrive in Cairo today, Tuesday, to discuss a ceasefire proposal in Gaza with Egyptian and Qatari mediators, according to what was reported by the researchers. At the same time, the United States said it wants the UN Security Council to adopt a resolution supporting the proposal to end the fighting. In the Gaza Strip through a ceasefire agreement and the release of hostages, which President Joe Biden announced.

Many news channels reported Israeli officials believing that Hamas would not reject the proposal outright but would request amendments to it. As for the Israeli presence in the Cairo negotiations, sources confirmed to the Israeli Kan channel that the War Council decided not to send a delegation to Cairo until positive signals were obtained from the mediators.

For his part, Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry said that the Hamas movement’s initial statements indicate that it received “positively” the current proposal for an exchange deal and to stop the war in Gaza. Israel’s response remains to be seen.

An opportunity to stop the fire:

As for the White House, it indicated that Hamas is the only obstacle to a complete ceasefire and reaching a truce and that the proposed agreement is an opportunity for a ceasefire in Gaza. The White House indicated that Israel is ready to move forward with the terms of the proposal announced last week.

For her part, the US envoy to the United Nations, Linda Thomas-Greenfield, explained that Washington distributed a draft US resolution to members of the UN Security Council that supports the currently proposed proposal to end the fighting in Gaza through a ceasefire and an agreement to release detainees.

Greenfield said that many leaders and governments, including in the region, supported this plan, calling on the Security Council to join them in calling for the implementation of this agreement without delay and other conditions.

An international appeal:

Today, Tuesday, the United Nations Coordinator for Middle East Peace, Tor Wenzland, called on all parties to reach an agreement immediately regarding US President Joe Biden’s proposal for a ceasefire in Gaza and the return of detainees. He said on the “X” platform: “There is no alternative, and the cost of delay every day is more lives.”

He added: “I visited Gaza yesterday and witnessed first-hand the devastating impact of the hostilities. The scenes of destruction and people’s suffering are heartbreaking, and urgent action must be taken to alleviate the humanitarian crisis facing the Gaza Strip.
