Palestine & Israel Conflict

Afghanistan holds rallies to honour slain Hamas chief Haniyeh

With the growing concern of Afghanistan being in the same zone, PIF. Afghan citizens staged a protest in Kabul on Sunday to condemn the killing of Hamas chief Ismail Haniyeh and show revenues to Palestine, as said in local papers.

The main rally was in Kabul, at Eidgah Mosque; hundreds of people came to pray for Haniyeh and the people of Gaza. Blocks were staffed by banners and posters with messages that they regard as being anti-Israel, expressing their displeasure on the Israeli “occupation and persecution endured by Gaza,” as stated by Hurriyat’s government news posting.

Taliban’s interim Afghan prime minister, Mullah Hasan Akhund, also expressed his condolences in this regard, addressing Haniyeh’s killing in Tehran by the Zionist regime, Israel, as not only a painful tragedy but also as an unlawful act by the international legal regime.

This is something I categorise as baseless and unjustifiable aggression against the innocent Martyr Ismail Haniyeh. May the noble soul of this hero, like all the other victims in Gaza, find the highest rank in Jannah… Fondly, Akhund, We shall continue to stand taller in our conviction, hastening the victories of the martyr’s noble and righteous struggle for liberation.

“This barbaric act was committed by the Zionist regime on him (the late Shah) while he was a guest of the Iranian government, during a period when the enemies felt no respect for diplomacy and basic human dignity,” he said.

Akhund also pointed out his disappointment with the Western institutions and human rights organisations in the last 10 months, where they were inactive while declaring that genocide of women and children was taking place in Gazan, and their such move only reveals what they are.

Hamas politburo chief Ismail Haniyeh, who on Wednesday was gunned down in Tehran, and both sides have accused Israel of being the culprit. There is rather sad news as, till the present day, Tel Aviv authorities have made no statement regarding the attack.

The killing took place amidst new Israeli airstrikes and ground invasions on the Gaza Strip, which has claimed at least 39,900 Palestinian lives since October 7.

The protests in Kabul were a part of multiple protests in Afghanistan that took place when citizens of the provinces rallied, demanding their anger and grief over the ongoing violence in Gaza. Speakers gathered the people, mobilising them to pressure the international community into acting rapidly against Israel’s government.

They stressed the cooperation of Muslim states in the issue of Palestinian Arabs and criticised the inefficiency of actions by international organisations. The protests also pointed out the strong sympathy of the Afghan population towards Palestinian people, as well as the kindred sentiments of sorrow and suffering for justice in the region.
