Palestine & Israel Conflict

American rapper Macklemore advocates for a ‘free Palestine’ during a concert in Germany

American rapper Macklemore released a revolutionary song in support of Palestine and Gaza, which achieved overwhelming success with a total of 25 million views in less than 24 hours.

During the song “HIND’S HALL” in support of Palestine, McLemore praised college students across the United States who are protesting the Israeli war in Gaza, vowing not to vote for President Joe Biden in the US elections next November.

In the song, Macklemore criticised the police sent by universities to disperse protests on campus, as well as politicians who support Israel and the US administration to continue sending weapons to kill children and civilians in Gaza.

With this song, the Grammy Award-winning rapper became one of the first major music artists to explicitly condemn the US government’s continued aid to Israel and praise students protesting the financial investments of their universities.

In the song, the singer said: “We see lies in them, as they claim that anti-Semitism is anti-Zionism, but I saw Jewish brothers and sisters there riding in their cars in solidarity and shouting with them, Free Palestine.”

He continued: “Israel is a country that relies on the apartheid regime to support the history of violent occupation, which has been repeated over the past 75 years.” He also attacked Biden, telling him: “Your hands are stained with blood, and all proceeds from the song will go to UNRWA, the United Nations agency for Palestinian refugees.”

Who is McLemore?

Macklemore, whose real name is Benjamin Haggerty, is 40 years old. He is a famous rapper who is very popular all over the world and has won four Grammy Awards. He rose to fame in 2012 with his hit song “Can’t Hold Us,” which topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart and made McLemore a famous singer.

McLemore presented works that discussed” progressive issues,” as he opposed former US President Donald Trump and supported the “Black Lives Matter” demonstration. He recently spoke publicly about his support for the Palestinians since October 7.

Accusations of anti-Semitism have dogged McLemore since 2014, as he has consistently denounced the brutal actions committed by the Israeli army against Gaza and the Palestinian people.

Less than two weeks after the October 7, 2023 attack, McLemore said in support of the Palestinians: “Killing innocent people in retaliation as collective punishment is not the solution, and that is why I support people around the world who are demanding a ceasefire.”

McLemore then appeared at a pro-Palestinian rally in Washington last November and wrote in an Instagram post at the time: “I encourage the Jewish and Muslim youth who are walking side by side for the freedom of Palestine.”
