Palestine & Israel Conflict

Death Toll Rises in Gaza as Israeli Army Attacks Claim 81 More Lives

In the latest episode of aggression, the Israeli army has claimed the lives of 81 more Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, thus making the death toll 38,794 since October 7, 2023. On Wednesday, the Gaza Health Ministry reiterated that the offenses have also left 89,166 people wounded.

An announcement was made by the Health Ministry in which it was noted that 81 individuals were killed and 198 others injured in two purported “massacres” against families over the last day. It underlined that many people are still stuck under debris, and on the roads, people wait for rescuers to help while the fighting continues.

Palestinian health authorities suggest that there could be more than 10,000 people still buried under the remnants of the buildings collapsed all over the Gaza Strip, thus making rescue work beyond difficult and rapidly deepening the humanitarian catastrophe.

In the light of a United Nations Security Council resolution that requires an immediate cease-fire, Israel continues to enlarge the onslaught on Gaza and is denounced by the international. Essentially, the war has devastated much of the territory in Gaza; the blockade has greatly hindered the availability of food, fresh water, and medical needs.

Criticism of the actions of Israel has been massive, with the International Court of Justice, for instance, referring to the nation as genocidal. The court last week commanded that Israel halt its warfare in the southern town of Rafah, home to more than a million Palestinians before it was attacked on May 6.

The humanitarian situation in Gazas is still grim nine months into the conflict. The blockade and constant aggression have caused unspeakable damage to the area, which many families have been displaced and structures crushed. Thus, the international community has sought ways to respond to the above crisis and effectively provide relevant aid to the population.

In particular, as the conflict continues day after day, the question of its outcome, which will be relatively stable and lasting, arises most insistently. This conflict shows the significance of diplomatic reporting and humanitarian intervention in the region for delivering appealing firmness.

While the people of the Gaza Strip are suffering with helpless cries under the violent attack of the Israeli forces, they suffer not only from the physical destruction but also from the psychological impact. This military aggression has for nine months been aimed at every facet of life, forces families to flee and vanishes repeatedly, and is responsible for the overwhelming loss. This conflict is not the exception; a recent report by the Gaza Community Mental Health Programme elucidates the irreversible mental toll.

The report, titled “Nine Months of Israel’s War on Gaza: Report: “War in Mental Health Impacts and the GCMHP’s Response,” is the first report that described the psychiatric effects of the war on the people of Gaza. It becomes a wake-up call to the global society to address the barbarity of this military invasion by the Israeli defense forces, which is an open aggression to the lives of future generations of Palestinians.
