French writer Alain Gresh: These are the reasons for the decline of the positionof intellectuals regarding the ongoing genocide in Gaza

French journalist and writer Alain Gresh believes that “the international community, especially the Western world, is doing nothing to stop this tragedy taking place in Gaza,” criticizing “the Western world that claims to defend democracy, human rights, and self-determination, but is now proving that it is a hypocritical world that presents a series of lies.”
He pointed out that the journalists in Gaza “did an imaginative job and gave us everything we
wanted. They are truly brave journalists.”

Gresh is a veteran French journalist and expert in Middle East affairs. He was born in Cairo in 1948 to an Egyptian Jewish family of European origins. His father, Henri Corel, was one of the founders of the Egyptian Communist Party. This upbringing had an impact on his intellectual and political formation, as he was dominated by a leftist orientation and his interest in the problems of the Middle East and the world. Al-Arabi even though he and his family left Cairo in 1962 for France.
He is considered an expert on Middle East issues and one of the specialists in the region’s conflicts. He is also a supporter of the Palestinian issue, and his interest in the issues of the Arab world increased when he assumed the editorship of the prestigious newspaper “Le Monde Diplomatique” for 10 years. In 2013, he founded the website “Orient 21”, which specializes in issues of the two worlds. Arab and Islamic.
Who wrote: “The Middle East…a war without end?”
1988, “Islam in Questions” (2000), “The Palestine Liberation Organization…The Internal Struggle” (2005), “The Hundred Doors of the Middle East” (2010), “What is Palestine called?” (2012), “Islam, the Republic and the World” (2016). His book, “Palestine and Israel: Facts about the Conflict,” has been translated into German, Arabic, Dutch, Italian, Spanish, and Portuguese, so to the dialogue:
As a researcher interested in the Palestinian-Israeli conflict for half a century, and on a personal level as a supporter of the struggle of the Palestinian people, what do you say about the killing of thousands of Palestinian civilians in Gaza?
What is happening in Palestine in terms of the killing of thousands of Palestinian women and children is terrible, more than terrible. The fact is that the international community, especially the Western world, shows a lack of interest in this tragedy, and we as Westerners cannot say that we did not know about it.
As the South African legal team said before the International Court of Justice in The Hague, while discussing the indictment against Israel for committing genocide in Gaza, it is the first time in history that we see a film of genocide of victims who themselves sent the photos documenting their killing.

So, we do not know anything, so what I fear is that this will have a long-term impact on relations not only between the Islamic world and the West, but also with the rest of the countries of the world. In fact, we clearly see that the Western world, which claims to defend democracy, human rights, and self- determination, is now proving to be a hypocritical world that presents a series of lies. This Western behavior will have an impact in the future.
