Palestine & Israel Conflict

Hamas urges the US to pressure Netanyahu after he said, ‘no deal in making.

The leader of Hamas has urged the U.S. to put pressure on Israel to a ceasefire in Gaza. Netanyahu is quoted as having dismissed any certainty of agreement on that. The militant group’s lead negotiator Khalil Al-Hayya insisted on a condition for reconciliation with Israel and the end of a prisoner swap – Washington must stop funding Israel.

In his recent interview, Netanyahu responded by saying that there was no discussion of the ceasefire on the horizon. He pointed out that the primary concern of Israel was to deny Iran to replenish weapons supply and support to Hamas in the Gaza Strip, which he called a ‘terror enclave. ” Hailing the importance of maintaining control over the Philadelphi Corridor along the Egypt-Gaza border to prevent arms smuggling to Gaza.

Nevertheless, the Hamas movement condemned Netanayuhus’s position, stating that it stalls efforts towards actualising a deal. The group argues it was agreed that the fighting be stopped months ago when U. S president Joe Biden recently proposed a ceasefire deal and disputes that new talks are needed. They alleged that Netanyahu was fond of using negotiations to protract the battle instead of ending it.

However, the US National Security Council’s John Kirby pointed out that Washington is 90% ready to implement a ceasefire, and there are still some technicalities in the process, hence the complications. Kirby also added the work that a deal is closed only when all the matters on a particular contract are resolved.

But in Israel, Netanyahu is under increasing pressure from his detractors, who have accused him of failure to do more to rescue hostages held in the Gaza Strip. Riots have been reported in several cities, with people using coffins to symbolically send a message to the government regarding how they have been dealing with this. Hostages’ families have also blamed Netanyahu any time he has failed to make valuable compromises.

However, the primary mediator, Qatar, has raised the alarm that Israel’s aggression might jeopardise the peace process. The Qatari foreign ministry pointed out that Israeli actions may deceive the global public and slow the negotiations in the long run.

The fighting started with a Hamas attack on Israelis on 7 October and so far has claimed more than 1,200 lives in the Israeli territory, including many non-combatants. In response, Israel has launched a large-scale attack on Gaza that, as of this moment, has claimed over forty thousand lives, and most of these victims are women and children, according to the health ministry in the territory controlled by Hamas.

With the recent bombardment of Gaza by Israel, tensions are on the rise. West Bank’s Defence Minister of Israel, Yoav Gallant, has urged the Israel Defence Forces to enhance their activity level and operations, especially against PLA. On the other hand, the Humanitarian crisis in Gaza deepens with the destruction of infrastructure, leading to disease outbreaks. Pinning the vaccine on kids has been initiated in parallel to the violent confrontation while seeking to stop polio that re-emerged in the besieged Gaza for the first time in 25 years.
