India: Political leader Mukhtar Ansari’s death natural or ‘murder’?

The Uttar Pradesh government has ordered an inquiry into the death of controversial Indian politician Mukhtar Ansari due to a heart attack in prison. Security is on high alert and prohibitory orders have been imposed across the state.

According to state officials, Mukhtar Ansari, who was serving a life sentence in Uttar Pradesh’s Banda Jail, died of a heart attack on Thursday. Ansari, a five-time member of the state assembly, had dozens of cases against him and was serving a life sentence. A few days ago, his son filed a petition in court and alleged that 63-year-old Ansari is being poisoned in his food, due to which his condition is deteriorating. But the jail authorities denied these allegations.

Yesterday evening he was admitted to the hospital in a state of unconsciousness. Doctors said that he had suffered a heart attack and despite all efforts, he could not be saved.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath called an emergency meeting as soon as the news of Mukhtar Ansari’s death became public. He ordered an inquiry into Ansari’s death by a three-judge team. In the past, Ansari was also accused of the fatal attack on Yogi Adityanath’s convoy.

Prohibitory orders have been imposed across the state. Security has been tightened in several districts and paramilitary forces are marching on the streets. The situation seems to be easy and cool but it’s tense.

Several political parties have raised questions on Mukhtar Ansari’s death. A few days ago Congress leaders said that Mukhtar Ansari was being poisoned but the administration is saying that his death is due to a heart attack.

He is under the supervision of the current High Court judge. There should be an investigation to find out what is happening to people in prisons.

Former Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav wrote on social media platform X, “A few days ago, he complained of poisoning in jail but it was not taken seriously. In hindsight, it is fair and Doesn’t look human.

MP Asaduddin Owaisi also expressed his views and said Mukhtar had made serious allegations against the administration that he was poisoned. Despite this, the government did not pay any attention to his treatment. Shameful and sad.

Former state chief minister and Bahujan Samaj Party leader Mayawati said, “The concerns and allegations raised by the family of Mukhtar Ansari regarding the death in jail should be investigated at a high level so that the truth comes out. Mukhtar Ansari was a member of the Bahujan Samaj Party.

Former Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav criticized the Uttar Pradesh government, saying, A government that cannot protect people’s lives has no right to be in power.

Mukhtar Ansari’s son Umar Ansari said that he had tried to meet his father two days ago but the jail authorities did not allow him.

Meanwhile, officials said that a team of five doctors will conduct the post-mortem of Mukhtar Ansari on Friday and video recording will also be done.

Mukhtar Ansari, a mafia don-turned-political leader, was elected as a five-time Member of Parliament from Uttar Pradesh. A total of 65 cases including murder and kidnapping were pending against him. Mukhtar Ansari, a resident of Ghazipur, belonged to the Mujahideen Azadi family. His grandfather Dr. Mukhtar Ahmad Ansari was among the foremost leaders of the freedom struggle and was also the Congress President in 1926-27.
