Israeli forces had reportedly wiped out 902 Palestinian families in the Gaza Strip since October 7, 2023, the government media office said in a statement released on Wednesday. The statement to Anadolu Agency insists that the actions fall in line with Israel’s year-long campaign with the full support of the United States.
Gaza’s media office described the development as “ongoing genocide,” accusing the Israeli army of deleting entire families from the civil registry via killings. The statistics outlined read: 902 families were exterminated; another 1,364 families reported to have been reduced to one member remaining; and 3,472 families with only two members alive.
It further claims that many European and Western nations, including the United Kingdom, Germany, and France, participated in supporting Israel, as they gave lethal and internationally banned weapons, thus fuelling the violence in the region. The countries were blamed for the mass destruction in Gaza.
The statement further read that the Gaza government appealed to the international community and international organizations to put pressure on the U.S. and Israel to stop what it describes as genocide and end the ongoing bloodshed. At its core, despite a UN Security Council resolution appealing for an immediate ceasefire, Israel has continued its military campaign within the Gaza Strip in the wake of the October 7 attack by the Palestinian group Hamas.
Nearly 41,700 people, the majority of whom are women and children, as well as over 96,200 others wounded, have been reported by local health authorities since the offensive continued. Nearly the entire population of Gaza is left displaced by the bombardment. The continued blockade also brings a grave shortage of food, clean water, and medicine.
It has been accused of genocide by Israel through actions taken at the International Court of Justice amid growing international denunciation. Critics said that the army of Israel, which had billions of dollars worth of U.S.-supplied arsenal, continued to carry out devastating strikes without impunity against the civilian infrastructure, including hospitals, mosques, schools, and refugee camps.
Under mounting pressure over his handling of the conflict, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said his government had to conduct the strikes because terrorism posed a threat to Israel’s existence. However, the killing of hundreds of civilians and non-combatants has sparked strong resentment from human rights organizations and the international community.
Despite ongoing violence, no road to peace seems to emerge at present, with thousands of casualties on both sides cumulating daily and a humanitarian situation in Gaza worsening by the day. While this deadlock drags on, the call for an immediate ceasefire and a long-term resolution grows louder, though prospects remain uncertain.
