Palestine & Israel Conflict

Israeli Warplanes Rattle Beirut with Sonic Booms as Hezbollah Leader Addresses Followers

BEIRUT: On Tuesday, Israeli aircraft conducted low flights over the capital city of Lebanon, Beirut, causing people to feel an earthquake-like-amazing noise which caused the windows to shake. This happened only a few minutes before the Secretary-General of Hezbollah, Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, was to address the nation.

The loud tracer sounds made Beirut citizens rush to open the windows of their homes to ensure that the glass did not break, step outside to their balconies, and watch the aeroplanes flying above them. As for now, the Israeli military still has not made any comment in regards to the operation.

Supporters of the armed Hezbollah, including members in Beirut’s southern outskirts, a region keen to the movement, lay inactive watching Nasrallah’s televised speech while celebrating one week since Israelis executed a Hezbollah senior commander, Fuad Shukr. Nasrallah pointed out that the sonic booms seem to be made to incite everyone present for an event to pay their respects and honour the souls of the victims.

The death of Shukr signified the second Israeli raid on Beirut’s southern periphery within the tenure of ten months due to the aggression of Hezbollah and the continued violence between Hezbollah and the Israel Defense Forces akin to the situation in Gaza.

Earlier on Tuesday, Lebanon’s Hezbollah movement said it had deliberately flown a drone provided to it by Iran to attack two military bases near the northern city of Acre as well as an Israeli army vehicle. A statement by the Israeli military corroborated the fact that several hostile drones had invaded Lebanon, out of which one was brought down.

Israeli medical officials said that seven people in the southern part of the coastal city of Nahariya were admitted to the hospital. Of them, one was in critical condition. The alleged injuries were a result of an interceptor missile that “failed to target the incoming missile and landed on the ground, causing harm to several civilians. ” The said case is under inquiry.

Reuters journalists noted an impact site on a side road near a bus stop on a significant Nahariya road. The Israelite defence force claimed that alarms were raised around Acre, which turned out to be another blunder. As a result, the Israeli air force targeted two Hezbollah installations in southern Lebanon.

These have raised the spectre of a wider Middle East war, especially after Hezbollah’s threats to retaliate over Shukr’s death and Iran’s threats of revenge after a Hamas key figure was killed in Tehran last week. Al-Hayat was told by a Hezbollah source that ”the response to the assassination of commander Fu’ad Shukr is still outstanding. ”

Furthermore, four Hezbollah members died in a Wednesday night bombing of a house in Mayfadoun province in Lebanon, twenty-nine point nine kilometres north of the border, medics and a security official said.

Conflict is not diminished in the region, and it is intensifying, which means that a large-scale conflict between Hezbollah and Israel is only a matter of time.
