Palestine & Israel Conflict

Israel’s hostage Rescue might be a sign of the deeper involvement of The US in the War

A recent video that caused outrage on social networks is a video from Gaza in which a helicopter is transporting Israeli soldiers and hostages from the area with the US-built pier for aid deliveries on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea in sight in the background. This footage can be associated with the fact that the US declared the storm affected the pier; following this, the concrete structure was entirely or partially reconstructed and, in several days or weeks, reopened.

However, if the US intended for people to believe that it was directly involved in Israel’s operation to rescue hostages, then it could not have done a better job, stated a former US official having prior experience with operations in Gaza on conditions of anonymity to Middle East Eye.

Most Israelis hailed the raid that was launched on Saturday to free four Israeli hostages from Hamas held in Gaza. These were the hostages that were taken during the attack spearheaded by Hamas on October 7. However, the operation led to the deaths of at least 274 Palestinians; still, the Palestinian health officials complained, causing a lot of controversy and anger.

Criticism has been observed in the operation of the US as Sullivan said that the US has been assisting Israel for months in searching and rescuing captives from Gaza. Centcom, the American central military command for the Middle East, said that while Israel did use an area south of the newly American-built pier for the operation, they did not use the pier itself; a US defense official opined that given the facility’s closeness to the pier, the US must have been involved in it.

Within these events, the US was trying to negotiate a ceasefire between Hamas and Israel. On Tuesday, Hamas reacted to the United States-mediated ceasefire proposal, and Blinken said that the organization had offered several changes to Biden’s proposal made on May 31. Blinken said, “Some of the changes are doable, and some are not. ”

Osama Hamdan, a senior official of Hamas, said in response to Blinken that his organization did not offer anything new to the ceasefire discussions. Hamas has demanded insurance of non-recapture of the war as soon as hostages are freed in the first component of a three-stage process backed by the UN Security Council.

Frank Lowenstein, a former special envoy for Israeli-Palestinian negotiations, said, “The idea Israel has always brought is that they don’t require a ceasefire for hostage-taking, and the rescue operation will harden their stance. ”

As the ceasefire negotiations have reached a deadlock, the Biden administration risks being drawn more into the war. The Israeli National Security Adviser, Mr. Tzachi Hanegbi, predicted for Israel seven or more months of fighting in Gaza.

It is possible that if the Biden administration fails to come up with a resolution for the ceasefire, then it has to directly intervene with the details of the Israeli aggression and the Genocide in Gaza. Lowenstein also noted, “I don’t think we own this war any less than we do; the issue that is on the table then is the fact now that given this ceasefire has failed, we are going to have to get more involved on the ground to stop this from escalating even further. ”

As for Gaza, WHO expressed severe concern over the most critical level of malnutrition being witnessed, a situation made worse by Israel’s continued ban on supplies of food, water, medicines, and fuel. The WHO Director-General, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, said that 8,000 kids under five years are admitted for confirmation and treatment of acute malnutrition; 32 deaths have been linked to malnutrition.

There is a universal call for the enhancement of aid, but the actual delivery of the aid is still lacking. The UN has even declared a possibility of a famine. Rajan and UN Court judges have called on Israel to guarantee that humanitarian aid is being supplied and received by the Gaza people. Some members of the CIA, including Israel’s partners, such as the US, have supported these cries.

The Biden administration has announced $404 million in new assistance to Palestinians, but effective delivery hinges on Israel facilitating access to aid workers and supplies. As the humanitarian crisis deepens, the Biden administration may find itself increasingly involved in addressing the consequences of the ongoing conflict.
