The Biden administration approved $60 million in aid for Francis Scott Clay Bridge.

Maryland Governor Wes Moore has warned of a ‘very long road’ to recovery from the dangerous bridge collapse.

United States President Joe Biden’s administration has unveiled $60 million in emergency funds to help with cleanup and reconstruction efforts in the Francis Scott Bridge disaster in Baltimore.

The Federal Highway Administration said Thursday it provided “immediate release” funds to rebuild the collapsed bridge within hours of receiving a request from the Maryland Department of Transportation.

The rapid disbursement of funds comes after Biden said earlier this week that he had directed the administration to “move heaven and earth” to quickly rebuild the bridge, which opened on Tuesday. It fell after hitting the plane.

“No one will ever forget the shocking images of a container ship crashing into the Francis Scott Bridge, causing it to topple and tragically killing six people,” US Transportation Secretary Pete Buttig said in a statement. “

“The federal emergency funds we are releasing today will help Maryland get started immediately, which will then provide more resources to advance recovery and rebuilding efforts. President Biden has been clear: The federal government will do everything it can to help rebuild the bridge and reopen the Port of Baltimore.

The funding announcements came as Maryland Gov. Wes Moore warned of a “very long road” to recovery from the disaster as experts speculated that Singapore’s flag carrier Dali may have been destroyed by bridge debris.

“The dolly is almost as tall as the Eiffel Tower and the key bridge is on top of the dolly. We’re talking about 3,000 or 4,000 tons of steel sitting on top of that ship,” Moore said.

Authorities have said they need to clear debris from the sea floor to reach the bodies of the four missing workers, who are believed to be trapped in their vehicles in a “superstructure” of concrete and other debris.

Divers recovered the bodies of two workers from a pickup truck near the middle of the bridge on Wednesday.

Federal officials have told Maryland lawmakers that the final cost of rebuilding the bridge could reach $2 billion, Roll Call reported, citing sources familiar with the discussions.

Baltimore Key Bridge Collapse Investigation

A search and rescue effort are now underway in Baltimore, USA as an investigation into the collapse of a key bridge has begun. The disaster is raising environmental concerns with the discovery of hazardous materials, and indefinite port closures are affecting supply chains and shipping.
