The world’s most polluted cities are in Asia – 83 out of 100 are in India, a report says

Pakistan’s largest city, Karachi, is ranked fifth on the list of the most polluted cities in the world. Garbage dumps are the main cause of pollution. There is smoke from industries and vehicles and dirty water.

In the list of the dirtiest and most polluted cities, the Indian capital New Delhi is in first place, the historic city of Gwalior in India is in second place, Addis Ababa is the capital of the African country of Ethiopia in third place, Mexico City is on the fourth place in the Latin American country and Mexico City is on the fifth place. The largest city in Pakistan is Karachi.

What can be the measure of cleanliness of a city? Experts have identified factors in this regard, including environmental pollution, garbage disposal, and sanitation management, levels of smoke and harmful gasses, and pollution problems after natural disasters.

The first number in the list is the Indian capital of New Delhi. Among Delhi’s main problems, the report says, are environmental pollution and overcrowding. The report mentions floating garbage and toxic materials in the river flowing through the city.

According to another report, the city’s geography, growth rate, and unfavorable climates have raised the level of environmental pollution to alarming levels.

Even in the historic city of Gwalior in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh, the level of air pollution is much higher than international standards. This is due to coal power plants, smoke from motor vehicles, and the use of dung as fuel for cooking.

The sanitation system in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia is almost non-existent. Clean drinking water is not easily available. Addis Ababa is also known as the diplomatic capital of Africa. However, there has been a slight improvement in the sanitation situation in the last two years.

Mexico City, in the Latin American country of Mexico, is 7350 feet above sea level, so the oxygen content in the atmosphere is slightly less. 3.6 million motor vehicles ply the city’s roads every day, a large number of which are diesel vehicles, spewing toxic fumes into the air. Being surrounded by mountains, the city has less airflow due to which a deep and thick layer of smoke and fog is always present.

And now let’s talk about Karachi, which was once called the city of lights. Many areas of this largest city of Pakistan are very polluted, and they are surrounded by smoke and fog all the time. Another major problem of the city is the inefficient drainage system, garbage heaps, factories, and transport fumes which have made the air of the city dangerously polluted.

A World Bank report on Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh, says that the presence of ingot kilns in the city, unregulated industries and transport, and polluted water have led to high levels of environmental pollution.

Another major cause of pollution in Mumbai, another city in India, is diesel motor vehicles. Apart from this, the burning of garbage, coal, and plastic is also causing pollution in the city.

In this list, the city of Baghdad is at the 11th place, the city of Almaty is at the 12th place, the city of Almaty is at the 13th place, the city of Brazzaville is at the 13th place, the city of N’djamena is at the 14th place, and the city of Tanzania is at the 15th place.
