Palestine & Israel Conflict

Thousands of People Flee Khan Younis to Escape Israeli Attacks: UN agency

The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), speaking on Monday, said that thousands of families in Khan Younis are being forced to escape from Israeli bombardment and operations. The civil war has made many flee their homes yet again; this has worsened the suffering of the people in the region.

They say that “Families in Khan Younis have yet again received Evacuation Orders from the Israelis,” UNRWA elaborated. The cycle of fear and displacement must come to an end: it has been lengthy, and the civilian population is exhausted, the agency noted, stressing the dramatic impact on people’s psychology and overall well-being.

It has escalated further as the Palestine Red Crescent stated that its Maan and Bani Suhaila clinics were also non-functional. As shown in Figure 4, these clinics, situated in the East region of Khan Younis and evacuated due to increased military operations, have been closed.

The Israeli army bombed areas in the Gaza Strip that are recognized by it as ‘safe’ zones, which it allowed families to go into on Monday, only to order them to vacate the area. This rather hasty policy change has worsened the living conditions for the residents; they are in a state of vulnerability and insecurity.

This, together with Israel’s refusal to observe a United Nations Security Council resolution calling for an immediate halt to the fighting, premised the confrontation with international conjoin. The constant aggression was initiated after an attack by the Palestinian resistance movement motivated by Hamas in early October, which has developed into a war.

Palestinian healthcare organizations have estimated that 38,800 Palestinians have been killed, the vast majority of which are women and children, and 89,400 have been injured. Such high death tolls will continue to fuel the officials’ concern about the effects of the war on the civilian populace.

Combined with ongoing bombings and a deadly blockade that keeps Gazan residents from obtaining many necessities like food, water, and medical aid, nine months of Israeli aggression has left the Gaza Strip in complete ruins. Perpetuation of the blockade situation has aggravated the existing humanitarian crisis in the country, with the population in a pathetic state.

There has been the International Court of Justice terming Israel as a Genocidal state, delivering a ruling which requires Tel Aviv to cease its military operations in the southern city of Rafah right away. Currently, over a million Palestinians are seeking shelter in Rafah from the conflict. Nonetheless, there has been a continuation of military actions contrary to the court’s decision, thus exposing the lives of multiple time-displaced people to more danger.

It is essential to realize that the recent conflict in Gaza, accompanied by destruction and refugees seen cyclically, requires international intervention and a long-lasting solution to help millions of innocent people who have been living in the conflict zone. People worldwide remain keenly observing with the desire to halt the fighting and restore order and law in the respective regions.
