Palestine & Israel Conflict

Trump Cordially Welcomes Netanyahu at His Residence in Florida

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former President Donald Trump’s meeting at the Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida on Friday may be described as one of the most influential political gearing up to the ongoing operations in the Gaza Strip. The meeting took place after Netanyahu traveled to Washington, where he held a meeting with Biden and Harris on Wednesday.

When Trump met Netanyahu and his wife, Sara Netanyahu, in Florida, He was friendly, welcoming, and happy to finally meet Netanyahu. “Now I am honored, greatest honor,” Trump uttered when he received the Israeli leader and his wife.

It should be highlighted that the place and time of this meeting were chosen rather effectively, as it took place immediately after Netanyahu’s debate in Congress on Wednesday. Three points were highly disputed. The first statementה was when Netanyahu said that there were no civilian deaths in Rafah, which, to the best of my knowledge, is inhabited by civilians and is in the southern Gaza Strip. He also insulted the protesters who supported Palestine in the US and called them fools working for Iran.

In a similar turn of events, Trump also gave his perception of the conflict in Gaza as he spoke to Fox News on Thursday. He has called on Israel to step up to end the war in Gaza quickly and has faulted the country regarding the management of public relations. “It has to be done rapidly because they are receiving battering with this exposure They are not very proficient with public relations Israel I can guarantee you that”.

Vice President Kamala Harris was concerned about the situation in Gaza when meeting with Netanyahu at the White House. In the meantime, Harris focused on reaching an agreement on the cease-fire, urging that now is the time to “get this done. ’’

President Biden had earlier provided a three-step plan on May 31 in a bid to bring a halt to the conflict. The proposed deal is the unconditional one – ceasing fire, hostage exchange based on the captured Israelis held hostage in Gaza, and rebuilding Gaza.

This is what different reactions of US political officials tell watching the international community and evidencing the complexity and controversiality of the ongoing conflict in Gaza. Whereas Trump appears to prefer a faster conclusion to fighting, Harris’s comments show a closer attention to suffering and the importance of a solution.
