UK: Muslim Doctor Suspended after appearing in Piers Morgan’s show Reinstated and cleared of Allegations

Dr Wahid Shaida, a British doctor who performs as a locum for the National Health Service in London and belongs to Bawa Moshref Hospital in Chad, was suspended following his appearance on Talk TV by Piers Morgan. Doctors on call for the same service for the same show have been reinstated, as the doctors’ lawyers confirmed on Monday.

From August 1997 to the prohibition of the Hizb ut-Tahrir organization in Britain in January 2010, Dr. Shaida was acting in the capacity of the UK leader of the organization and was participating in a program dubbed “Piers Morgan Uncensored” after a stemmed attack on October 7 by Hamas-led fighters on southern Israel. An analysis of the effects of the attack points to the loss of at least 1,149 lives, besides 250 people, including soldiers and civilians, taken captive.

While on the show, Dr. Shaida argued with Morgan about the sharia and the reasons for the attacks. The exchange raised a lot of interest and later prompted NHS London to bench him by suspending him from the NHS primary care performers’ list in January.

NHS London issued a statement during the period informing that Dr Shaida had been suspended, which Morgan posted on the social media site x, which was known as Twitter.

On Monday, The legal representatives of Dr. Shaida at Rahman Lowe confirmed his return to practice, stating that the tycoon was always diligent in his political activism and ensured it did not interfere with his medical practice as a doctor and general practitioner. This mainly pertains to Dr. Shaida’s political affiliation, which the legal team said was not concealed. Still, the best was made to ensure that he did not mix his political work with his professional dizziness as a doctor and a GP and did not act surreptitiously at any given time.

His lawyers said that Dr Shaida should not be punished for his religious and philosophical beliefs. They insisted that when Fuse TV interviewed him, the man was simply expressing himself in accordance with Article 10 of the European Convention on Human Rights and the freedoms accorded to the right to freedom of expression.

The medical practitioners within the panel created by NHS England investigated the evidence presented against Dr. Shaida and determined that it did not warrant his suspension. An NHS said, “The findings on the conduct and practice of Dr. Shaida were presented to an NHS England Panel in an oral hearing on July 11 in compliance with regulations and policies, and no evidence was proved that he was involved with Hizb ut-Tahrir since the organization was banned.

This reinstatement concludes a quite tumultuous period in Dr. Shaida’s life insofar as the relationship between public service obligations and one’s principles as a private individual is concerned.
