UN Special Envoy for Yemen Hans Grundberg met Iran’s Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araqchi on the envoy’s visit to Tehran. In this meeting, the head of Iranian diplomacy underlined the integration of regional events. It indicated that the direct consequences of the Hebrew regime crimes in Gaza contribute more than anything to the intensification of tension and crisis in the region.
He also said that the approaches of ceasefire and the stop of the Zionist regime’s crimes in Gaza would also have a crucial impact and will lead to a decrease in tensions between countries and will create favourable conditions for peace and stability in different areas of the region.
Araghchi, appreciating the independence of the people and government of Yemen in supporting the oppressed and defenceless people of Palestine, added that the Islamic Republic of Iran endorses any truce accepted by Palestinian resistance and Hamas.
He also noted that the further aid of the United States and some European countries for the Zionist regime and their acts of aggression on Yemen are the factors that increase the tension and hinder the situation and the political settlement in Yemen.
Then, Araghchi once more stressed Iran’s solid support for attaining sustainable peace and security in Yemen and appreciated the role of the United Nations. He stressed that the UN’s efforts and humanitarian assistance to the people of Yemen should not be political.
During this meeting, the UN special envoy for Yemen also welcomed Araghchi into the new position of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iran and expressed his hope for the success of such a mission. He also urged to persist in cooperation and consultation over other issues connected with the Yemen crisis with Iran, in particular, using an opportunity at the session of the UN General Assembly in New York.
Hans Grundberg, noting the Islamic Republic of Iran’s position and focus on stability and security in the region, especially Yemen, delivered a report on the United Nations’ activities in promoting sustainable peace and stability in Yemen, de-escalation in the Red Sea region, and progress made on the file of the exchange of prisoners in Yemen.
He also urged Iran to support the United Nations further in this regard.
