Palestine & Israel Conflict

WHO says that a significant part including 8000 children in Gaza Are facing Malnutrition and Famine

Over 5000 children in the Gaza Strip are experiencing a nutrition deficit, WHO stated, after Israel has been limiting the entry of food, water, medicine, and fuel into the Gaza Strip. , the WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus stressed the following, “A significant proportion of Gaza’s population is now facing catastrophic hunger and famine-like conditions. ”

However, contradicting the previous findings of a possible food delivery surge, positive progression regarding food delivery to needy individuals has yet to be realized. Speaking to the house, Tedros said about 8’000 children under five years have been diagnosed and treated for acute malnutrition in the Gaza Strip.

However, owing to a lack of security and access, the two stabilisation centres for severe cases of malnutrition are functional. Malnutrition has been reported to have claimed 32 lives in Gaza, giving this details Tedros.

UN has said there is an impending famine as Israel continues to wage a campaign on the Gaza Strip. In January, the ICJ asked Israel to guarantee the supply of essential humanitarian assistance to Gaza’s civilian population. This was followed in March when the government called on Israel to ensure prompt actions to allow the provision of crucial services and human services.

Even some of Israel’s most steadfast supporters, such as the United States, have demanded increased assistance to be provided to the Gaza Strip. Last month, Israel closed the Palestinian side of the Rafah crossing between Gaza and Egypt, which is considered the only access for aid and humanitarian organisations.

Significantly, the Chief Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, Karim Khan, asked for the arrest of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yoav Gallant on the charges of using starvation as a weapon of war. Another independent commission backed by the UN also claimed that Israel targets hungry Palestinians. Still, it asserted that Israeli authorities are directly in charge of war crimes such as starvation, murder, and other unlawful acts against Palestinians.

So, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken admitted that, although Israel has made progress in the attempt to enhance the delivery of assistance in Gaza, further measures should be undertaken. He recommended that CGs improve on the rates of efficiency with which truck inspections are carried out, clear backlog, refine and extend the banned list, and the number of visas issued to caregivers and human aid. At the conference for Gaza aid in Jordan, Blinken stated that new assistance of $ 404 million was needed for Palestinians and demanded that more effective shelters for humanitarian aid workers be created.

‘The bombing of UN facilities writes about the human cost of the Israeli attacks in Gaza, with at least 270 aid workers killed, including the FOOD WORLD KITCHEN employees. ’ In this situation, we see that the amount of foreign aid, even when it is statistically impressive, does not reach the intended targets in Gaza because of the conflict.

The International Rescue Committee applauded the new humanitarian package of the US; however, it added that the efficiency of its implementation requires unimpeded access to the delivery of assistance and the functionality of aid workers.

Apart from Gaza, WHO’s Tedros has pointed out that there is a developing health crisis in the occupied West Bank; Israeli forces have killed hundreds since the start of the war. Attacks on healthcare emerge as a critical issue; the WHO recorded 480 attacks in the West Bank, in which 16 were killed and 95 were injured. For example, secretive Israeli troops stormed a hospital in Jenin and shot dead three people within a hospital facility.

The situation in Gaza and the West Bank remains dire, and global appeals to provide more assistance and better living standards prevail to this day.
