American fashion models Bella and Gigi Hadid, who are half Palestinian, are not sitting back but are actively using their influence to raise $1 million (£785,000) needed to support Palestinian relief. From this generous donation, four organizations that help the children and families in need due to the conflict in Gaza will benefit equally.
Hadid girls are Mohamed Anwar Hadid’s daughters who have become prominent models wherever they are. They have always stood for the Palestinian people. In late May, writing an open letter to Palestine on Instagram, Bella Hadid displayed extreme woe regarding the people’s situation and accused the governments of not caring. She described her grief at the pain and the lack of action from the international structures.
Aside from her performances, Bella’s presence at the Cannes Film Festival was also conspicuous. She wore a red and white dress made from cloth affiliated with Palestinian culture. While focusing on this clothing’s significance, she underlined that it represented Palestinian creativity, weaving traditions, and the Palestinian people’s spirit.
After the tragic events of October 7, when Hamas began unexampled aggression against Israel, during which about 1,200 people were killed, and 252 hostages were taken, Gigi Hadid also turned to social media, Instagram. She stated her ideas for everyone suffering from the confrontation’s consequences and the children. Gigi expressed how much she understands the Palestinian suffering under occupation and repeated that her wish for the Palestinian people is not equal to suffering or hurting any Jewish person.
The Hadid sisters have chosen four prominent relief agencies to receive donations: Heal Palestine, Palestine Children’s Relief Fund and the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East, WCK. Through the following organisations, appropriate help in terms of humanitarian assistance is delivered to the families, food and medicine are provided, families are accompanied, and psychological assistance is provided during the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas.
This act of generosity by Bella and Gigi Hadid underscores their commitment to humanitarian causes and their solidarity with the Palestinian people. Their donations aim to alleviate some suffering and bring hope to those most affected by the conflict.
US President Joe Biden has also called for an end to the conflict in Gaza, urging Hamas to accept a new Israeli proposal to cease hostilities. The conflict, which began with Hamas’s attack on Israel, has led to the deaths of over 36,000 people in Gaza, according to the Hamas-run health ministry. As international leaders and influencers like the Hadid sisters advocate for peace and relief, the hope is that sustained efforts will eventually lead to a resolution and improved conditions for the affected populations.
